Our passion comes to life. Paolo Cattaneo establishes the company with the original name of "Cattaneo Piante Terricci". From here begins the cultivation of traditional nursery and the production of young plants.

His son Ernesto begins the production of fruit plants, roses and the first conifer nurseries.

The successor Albino participates in the first competitions at provincial and interprovincial level, managing to obtain awards and certificates of merit for the various products on display that ranged from soils to new tree varieties.

His son Umberto introduces a new type of production for a market that was still very new for Italy: plants grown in containers. Cattaneo Vivai thus becomes one of the first nurseries in Italy with over soil cultivation, anticipating what further became market standards.

Umberto gives a great boost to the practice of propagation of trees and shrubs by cuttings. A new industrial rooting plant is set up which represents a great innovation for Como and Italian nurseries.

Paolo Cattaneo, Umberto's son, thanks to the many years of experience acquired abroad introduces to nursery production, the meristem, a new technique of micro-propagation in vitro.

The Como Industry and Agriculture Chamber of Commerce gives the gold medal to the agricultural company Cattaneo for the technological innovations introduced. At the same time, the Garden Center is built next to the company, which guarantees a direct contact with the public.

Thanks to the significant results achieved in the course of his business activity, Umberto is proclaimed by the jury "Floriculturist of the year", receiving the Fabio Rizzi award.

The Cattaneo family renews and inaugurates the new Garden Center, giving a touch of novelty to the exhibition area by including new products, such as exclusive home decor items.

Paolo, with his wife Gigliola and their sons Andrea and Davide are proud to carry on with their collaborators the Cattaneo Vivai agricultural company, which, with its century of business activity, has contributed to writing the history of the Italian nursery. By implementing innovative production techniques and establishing a relationship of trust with its customers, Cattaneo Vivai is today a renowned reality in Como, ltalian and international territory.
